Veggie baked chicken breasts; it sounds like a very healthy meal! That’s for a good reason, as this meal starts off with lean, protein-packed meat. The health quotient further increases with the addition of French-style green beans.
Read on to find out more about this recipe as well as other healthy chicken and veggie dishes.
Chicken Breast and Vegetables
The recipe starts by mixing cream of celery soup, onion soup mix, and sour cream.
This dish is great because it contains chicken, which is a lean, protein-packed meat. Green beans are another low-calorie food that's packed with a variety of nutrients. This dish is also quite easy to make, so it is the perfect choice for busy parents.
Finally, there are tons of ways you can play around with the ingredients to make your own variation. You can change the soup flavorings, substituting cream of celery soup with cream of chicken or cream of mushroom. There are also a wide variety of soup mixes that you can use in lieu of onion.
You can also change things up to provide your choice of veggies. While green beans work well, carrots, broccoli, peas, and other vegetables can give the dish a whole new texture and flavor.
What to Keep in Mind When Preparing Chicken
Another thing that makes this dish so healthy is its preparation. Baked chicken is one of the healthiest ways to eat chicken.
Frying chicken boosts the meat’s fat content. Prepackaged chicken has a high sodium content that can contribute to high blood pressure. If you bake your chicken, you can be sure that it will still have a great nutrient profile and that the integrity of the chicken will not be compromised by the preparation.
To further ensure the chicken is as healthy as possible, remove the skin before baking.
If you want to give your chicken a kick, try chili peppers or pepperoncino and some delicious mango salsa.
Other Chicken and Vegetable Dishes to Try
Of course, when it comes to vegetable and chicken dishes, there’s a wide variety to choose from. Chicken and vegetables are a common combination, due in part to how easy it is to acquire the ingredients. Here are some chicken and vegetable dishes you might want to try.
Bite-sized chicken and vegetables is a great way to change up the presentation of classic chicken and veggies. Cut up all of the chicken and veggies into bite-sized pieces. Choose vegetables that are easy to cut, like peppers or carrots. Arrange all of the ingredients on a baking sheet, season with salt, pepper, oregano, and garlic powder, and bake.
One-pan dinners are all the rage these days, and for good reason. They're easy and often quick, and require little clean-up after the fact. Chop some chicken, carrots, onion, broccoli, and baby red potatoes up into bite-sized pieces and throw them into a skillet. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, pepper, lemon juice, and red pepper flakes. This is a great way to get a nutritious and filling dinner without tons of work.
If you want a dinner that doesn't require a lot of prep, buy a whole roast chicken from the store. Surround it with your choice of vegetables, and serve. Just make sure to watch your kids during dinner to make sure they actually take some of the veggies! There are plenty of options for vegetables, so pick your favorite or the most nutritious ones for a truly healthy meal.
