Liberal arts schools vary widely in curriculum and competitiveness, with some colleges in the Northeast ranking among the hardest-to-get-into schools nationwide. To determine the top liberal arts colleges in the Northeast, Moms Who Think reviewed College Scorecard data on acceptance rates from the U.S. Department of Education. Liberal arts colleges were ranked based on the percentage of applicants who were granted admission in Fall 2022. Supplemental data on the average SAT score amongst admitted students for Fall 2022, published tuition and fees for the 2022-23 academic year, the number of undergraduate students in Fall 2022, and the percentage of degrees awarded by field of study in the 2021-22 academic year is also from the Department of Education. Only colleges with at least 1,000 undergraduate students that are classified as Baccalaureate Colleges: Arts & Sciences Focus in the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education were considered.
