Does the Scarsdale Diet Actually Work?
The Scarsdale diet, as you may already know, is a heavily restricted diet that purportedly can help someone lose a large amount of weight very quickly. One of the most famous claims associated with this diet is that it helped a practitioner lose 20 pounds in just two weeks.
The diet has been heavily criticized by nutritionists and doctors for its extreme restrictions. There are only a handful of foods that you are allowed to eat during the initial 14-day dieting period. You are permitted to expand your diet some after that, but not by much. These extreme restrictions often make the diet difficult to stick to long-term.
In addition, many experts warn that rapid weight loss is not healthy. While the steep calorie deficit that you're put in with this diet will help you lose weight, it will not do so in a manner that's good for your health. Losing ten pounds per week is not healthy, and is far above the threshold most health professionals recommend.
