Save Your Money and Skip These 9 In-N-Out Menu Items

In-N-Out vs. Shake Shack: Who Actually Has the Better Burger?

Save Your Money and Skip These 9 In-N-Out Menu Items

If you ever find yourself on the West Coast and you’re looking for a good meal, then you need to stop at In-N-Out Burger at least once. The restaurant has been around forever, and the company started many of the fast-food trends that we know today. Plus, all of the food is incredibly fresh. You’ll place your order and then watch as the cooks prepare your burger and make your fries from scratch. Needless to say, there are In-N-Out menu items that you need to try, but not everything here is worth your money.

At first glance, it may seem like your options are limited at In-N-Out, but there’s actually a secret menu that’s loaded with additional options. However, many of those items are not worth your money. On this list, we’ll cover nine items that you can probably skip and three that you should definitely try the next time you’re at In-N-Out.

Skip the 3X3 Burger

The first of the In-N-Out menu items you can probably skip is the 3X3 Burger. If you’re at the restaurant and you’re not seeing that on the menu, it’s because it isn’t advertised to just anyone. Instead, this is one of the many items on this list that can be found on their “secret menu.” Technically, the menu isn’t so secret since it’s published online. Either way, you’ll need to ask specifically for the 3X3 Burger, which has three beef patties and three slices of American cheese. However, you need to be careful. If a single burger has 360 calories and 660 mg of sodium, just imagine how unhealthy this largerburger will be for you!

Skip the 4X4 Burger

Another famous entry on the In-N-Out secret menu is the 4X4. This is like the regular cheeseburger, but they put four beef patties and four pieces of cheese between two buns. Just like with the 3X3, you’re asking for health problems if you eat this huge burger on a regular basis. You don’t need this. Trust us, the regular In-N-Out burger is delicious enough. Just get one of those and save yourself the heart attack later on.

Skip the Animal Style Fries

One of the best In-N-Out menu items is the side of fries. The fries are world-famous because they are made fresh in a way that you don’t see anywhere else. While you wait for your order, you can literally watch the employees cutting whole potatoes and preparing your meal. However, there’s a selection on the secret menu called Animal Style Fries. This is an order of fries but it’s topped with cheese and grilled onions. If you’re not a fan of onions, it can be tough to remove them, so the whole meal may be tarnished. You’re better off paying for the regular cheese fries.

Skip the Cold Cheese

There are many wacky items on the In-N-Out secret menu. If you know what to ask for, the employees will be happy to oblige. One of the items that most people won’t have an interest in is the “cold cheese” option. It’s like it sounds. Instead of getting the warm, gooey cheese that we all love, ask for the cold cheese, and they will literally equip your burger with a slice of cold cheese. There may be someone out there who likes this idea, but for most of us, it’s better to save our money.

Skip the Flying Dutchman

There’s another interesting item on the secret menu that you probably don’t need to order. It’s called the Flying Dutchman. When you order it, you’ll get two beef patties and two slices of cheese. Only, they put the cheese on the inside of the beef patties. That may seen normal until you realize that they don’t serve it with buns or lettuce. They just hand you the beef patties and you eat the meal like that. Needless to say, you should save your money.

Skip the Fries Light or Well Done

The fries at In-N-Out are one of the highlights of eating at the restaurant. They’re so fresh and well-seasoned that there’s no reason to mess with them. But there are options. One option is to ask for the fries to be “light.” That means they are lightly fried and less crispy. You can also get your fries “well done.” Meaning that they are extremely crispy and likely not that appetizing. Either way, we don’t recommend that you spend any money to get one of these unsavory options.

Skip the Tomato Wrap

Many people want to go to In-N-Out, but they also want to be healthy. One way that you can try to reduce the fat is to order a Tomato Wrap off of the secret menu. This is any burger of your choosing (regular, double, 3X3, 4X4). Only, instead of the meat being placed between buns, they are placed between tomato slices. There’s nothing wrong with trying to be healthy, but we recommend you make a meal like this at home instead, and you can save a lot of money.

Skip the Wish Burger

Proving that there are In-N-Out menu items for everyone, we present the Wish Burger. This is their version of a veggie burger. The restaurant won’t have veggie patties available. Instead, if you ask for the Wish Burger, you’ll get a “burger” that is only made up of lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, and onions in between two buns. There’s nothing wrong with being vegan or vegetarian, but you can make this at home with a few ingredients that you likely already have in your refrigerator.

Skip the Mustard-Grilled

This one is a matter of preference. However, if you don’t love mustard, then don’t waste your money on this item. If you order it, the cook will spread mustard on top of the beef patty. Then, they flip it over and grill it on the mustard side until it’s done. It’s a way to add more flavor to the burger. But if you don’t like mustard very much, then you’re probably not going to want to eat this.

Try the Hamburger With Onion

When it comes to the best In-N-Out menu items, you can’t go wrong with the standard hamburger or cheeseburger with onion. Order it as it is without the unnecessary frills and you won’t be disappointed. The burger is incredibly fresh and the flavors are on point. Get the meal, and you’ll also get those amazing fries. Wash it all down with a beverage of your choice, and you’ll be in heaven.

Try the Neapolitan Shake

One of the items on the secret menu that you absolutely must try is the Neapolitan shake. As you would expect, this is a delicious ice cream shake that combines the flavors of vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. The ice cream at In-N-Out is just as good as anything else on the menu. It’s high-quality and tasty, and with this dessert, you get the best of all worlds.

Try the Double-Double With Onion

Finally, one of the In-N-Out menu items that you should try at least once is the famous Double-Double. This is just like the standard hamburger or cheeseburger, except you get two patties! You shouldn’t eat this every day because that wouldn’t be healthy. However, if you go to the restaurant here and there, then you should try it some of the time. The patties are cooked perfectly, and the toppings are great.
