The Top 50 Safest Cars for Families, Ranked

Every parent knows that a busy family means you need a reliable car. Most importantly, though, you want a safe set of wheels to transport your kids to the various activities they have throughout the week. We set out to find the safest family cars so you can look at car buying with confidence, knowing your making a smart and safe car selection.

Methodology

To determine the safest cars for families, Moms Who Think reviewed data on accidents for 2020 to 2022 from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Makes and models were ranked based on the percentage of persons involved in an accident who survived with no apparent injury. Only cars where at least 15% of accidents involve passengers younger than 18 years – a grim proxy for family-friendliness – were considered. Supplemental data on the percentage of accidents that result in vehicle rollover are also from the NHTSA and are for 2020 to 2022. Estimates of the number of cars on the road used to calculate accident incidence rates are based on recent annual sales figures, average car age, and the year a car model was first introduced to market. Without further ado, here are the top 50 safest cars for families.
