Buy a Home for Less Than $63,000 in This Amazing Hiking Town

For families who love to be outdoors — hiking, camping and generally enjoying nature — the thought of living in a hiking town seems ideal. With plenty of trails to explore and vistas from which to draw inspiration, the towns on our list deliver on all counts. Better yet, though, they have homes that are incredibly affordable. In fact, you can nab a home in one of these places for less than $63,000.

To determine the most affordable hiking towns, Moms Who Think reviewed five-year data on median household value and median household income from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2022 American Community Survey. Cities, towns, and Census-designated places were ranked based on the ratio of median home value to median household income. Only places with at least 2,500 residents and at least half a mile of hiking trail per 10 square miles of land area were included. Spatial data on hiking trails is from the U.S. Forest Service.

Now! Who's ready to find their new home (or second home) and take a nice hike?!
