Description

Enjoy this grab-and-go breakfast treat with this simple-to-make recipe.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 250g (2 1/2 cups) rolled oats
  • 125g (1/2 cup) unsalted butter
  • 125g (2/3 cup) brown sugar
  • 23 tablespoons golden syrup or honey
  • A pinch of salt
  • Optional: 50g (1/4 cup) dried fruits, nuts, or chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking tray (about 20cm square) with parchment paper.

  2. Melt the Ingredients: In a large saucepan, melt the butter, brown sugar, and golden syrup (or honey) over low heat, stirring until the mixture is smooth and combined.

  3. Mix in the Oats: Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the oats and a pinch of salt until well combined. If you’re adding any dried fruits, nuts, or chocolate chips, mix them in now.

  4. Bake: Pour the mixture into the prepared baking tray and press it down evenly with the back of a spoon. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.

  5. Cool and Slice: Allow the flapjack to cool in the tray for about 10 minutes before slicing it into squares or rectangles. Let them cool completely in the tray before removing, as this helps them firm up.

  6. Serve: Once cooled and firm, enjoy your homemade flapjacks with a cup of tea or coffee!

Notes

  • For a softer flapjack, reduce the baking time slightly.
  • For a chewier texture, increase the amount of golden syrup or honey.
