Supplies For Your New Dog
Congratulations on adopting a new dog! This is such an exciting time. Adopting a dog can be stressful, too, as much as we might try not to make it so! Here are some essential supplies you'll need to get for your dog. Hopefully, this list will help you stay organized and reduce your stress.
Of course, you should start with the essentials: food, bowls, a bed, and a crate. These are the items you absolutely need to have before you bring your dog home. Make sure to pick the right kind of food for your dog. Do your research and avoid brands that don't have a vet recommendation. Popular dog food brands include Pedigree, Purina Pro Plan, and Blue Buffalo. If you want to feed your dog a raw diet, talk to a vet about how to do that properly.
Toys are another must-have, especially for a young dog. Keep in mind that some toys are not suited for all dogs. Dogs who are big chewers need toys that can withstand the power of their jaws. Kong Extreme toys are a great option, as is any other toy designed for tough chewers. Avoid any toy that specifically states it is not for chewing.
You'll need to get a leash and collar, too. Consider getting a reflective collar and leash if you'll be walking in a low-light area frequently, or if you plan to take your dog hiking and camping. Get a brush suited for your dog's coat, as you'll need to brush their coat out in between grooming appointments. A toothbrush and dog toothpaste is also necessary, so you can keep your dog's teeth shiny and bright!
