How to Encourage Your Child to Love Sports
If you're giving your child an athletic name, chances are you want them to show an interest in sports. You can help develop an interest in sports by introducing them to your child at a young age. Whether it's peewee softball or baseball, youth basketball, or another sport, starting young will help your child develop a fond appreciation for sports.
Talk to your child about what sport interests them. You may be surprised what they say! There are so many different sports out there, including some newer sports that are starting to gain popularity. Sometimes, having your child in a sport that isn't tied to their school can offer the whole family a nice change of pace.
Play sports-like games with them at home. Play catch, buy them a youth ball-and-bat set, or shoot hoops in the driveway. By introducing them to sports at home, you'll give them the chance to determine their athletic interests in a calm, comfortable environment.
Remember- your child doesn't have to enjoy sports. Every child is unique, and just because you want your child to love sports doesn't mean they will. Give your child lots of options, but remember to keep an open mind and to listen. Don't force them to do what they clearly aren't interested in; they will only resent you for it.
