You Need to Try This Princess and the Frog Game

This game is a whole lot of fun. It involves candy, one of a child's favorite things! Most of the supplies for this game are going to be ones you already have on hand, making it easy to set up and execute. Have fun!

The Princess and the Frog

Things you'll need:

A bag of Hershey’s kisses
Blindfold
Paper
Pen or marker
A bag, bowl or hat

Getting ready:

Step 1:  Write the word ‘frog’ on one slip of paper.

Step 2:  Write the names of other animals on all the other pieces.  Be sure you have at least one piece of paper for each guest.

Step 3:  Fold each piece of paper, and put it in the bag, bowl or hat.

When you're ready to start:

Step 1: Choose one guest to be the princess.  You may want to have the girls draw straws, or guess the number you’re thinking of to make it fair.

Step 2:  All the other guests form a circle around the princess.

Step 3:  Blindfold the princess.

Step 4: Have all the guests pick a piece of paper until someone gets the one that says ‘frog.’

Step 5:  The princess then says, “with this kiss, the frog becomes a prince.’  The guests then all start making animal sounds, but only the child that has the paper that says frog may ‘ribbit.’

Step 6:  The princess should walk towards the frog, using the ribbit sounds as her guide.

Step 7:  When she thinks she knows who the frog is, she should hand that guest the kiss.

Step 8:  If she guesses right, the frog gets to keep the kiss, and sits out the next round while the player to the right of her is the princess.

Step 9:  If she guesses wrong, then guest gives back the kiss, and must sit out while play starts again, with the frog now playing the princess.

What If I Can't Find Hershey's Kisses?

Hershey's kisses are very easy to find, so we have confidence that you'll be able to find some for this game. If you can't, though, simply use a different type of chocolate! Any sort of small chocolate will do. The important thing is making sure it's small enough to easily fit into a child's hand.

If you can't find any other chocolate that fits what you need, try finding small candy bars instead. “Fun-sized” candy bars, like Snicker's and Milky Way, can work perfectly for this game. Or, you can go for something a little bigger and pick a Reese's.

One thing to keep in mind when picking a candy is allergies. If a guest has an allergy to any type of candy ingredient, make sure to avoid it. Peanut allergies are quite common, for example. Ask the parents of your guests ahead of time about any allergies, and plan accordingly.

If you don't want to use candy at all, simply replace the Hershey's kisses with any sort of marker of your choice. It could be a coin, a small toy, or a plastic frog! Kids will definitely be the happiest when you use candy, but you don't have to scrap the game entirely if you don't have or want to use candy.
