Think Twice Before Buying These Costco Items

Costco is known for offering high-quality products in its warehouses and promptly removing items with high return rates. However, not every product on their shelves is a crowd-pleaser.

Let’s look at 5 items you should avoid at Costco right now. Each has been poorly reviewed by customers.

Island Princess Macadamia Popcorn Crunch

  • Price: $59.99
  • Rating: 2.9 out of 5
  • Reviews: 19

This item is a web exclusive, but customers haven’t been impressed. It currently has more one and two-star reviews than it has five-star ones.

The reason is its price, the Island Princess Macadamia Popcorn Crunch costs $59.99, but most reviewers say it just tastes like popcorn. If an item isn’t providing great value, it’s going to be panned by Costco customers.

No Sugar Keto Bar Chocolate Mint

A bar of chocolate
  • Price: $42.99
  • Rating: 3.5 out of 5
  • Reviews: 84

While a score of 3.5 might not look terrible, keep in mind that more than 95% of items on Costco’s site have a score of a 4 or above, so anything below that rate is very poorly reviewed.

One recent commenter tried them in spite of reviews and wasn’t pleased.

“I went against the poor reviews thinking I might still like them; I love dark chocolate and mint anything. My husband and I both thought these were disgusting! I would not recommend, especially for the price…. big mistake. I just can’t eat these…”

The No Sugar Keto Bar that’s peanut butter flavored has a higher 4.2 rating. So it may just be that if you’re looking for a keto snack, you need to avoid their mint flavor.

Marcal 100% Recycled Bath Tissue

  • Price: $56.99
  • Rating: 2.8 out of 5
  • Reviews: 24

Marcel’s bath tissue (toilet paper) is 100% recycled. In the package, you get 16 rolls that have 168 sheets per roll. Then there are six packages per order, which means you get a total of 96 rolls of toilet paper!

While that sounds like a lot, reviewers over and over again commented on how small each roll was. Another complaint was the quality of the toilet paper, which reviewers felt was too rough.

A’cappella Caramel Ensemble

Woman Eating Chocolate
  • Price: $42.99
  • Rating: 3.0 out of 5
  • Reviews: 8

While A’cappella’s Caramel Ensemble only has 8 reviews, their products are generally poorly reviewed on Costco’s website. Their Bark Ensemble has a 3.8 rating while their Knotty Grahams are rated a 3.5.

While the chocolates do have their fans, most complaints center on their flavor. One Costco customer tried all three flavors and came away disappointed each time:

“Terrible, just terrible. The caramel is gritty and bland, the chocolate is chalky and just not good. I love almost all chocolate—cheap and expensive, but this was a waste of money. We tried all 3 varieties offered—caramel, bark and pretzels, and none were worth eating and all went into the trash. Super disappointed.”

Butterfinger, Crunch, Baby Ruth Minis Chocolate Candy, Variety Pack

  • Price: $14.99
  • Rating: 3.1 out of 5
  • Reviews: 9

Reviewers don’t love this product for a simple reason: it’s billed as a variety pack, but multiple buyers said it was almost all Butterfinger bars!

“85% butterfinger, 5 baby ruth, and about a dozen crunch. Definitely not a “mix”. The chocolate was fine, delivery was delayed. Meh”

Another went into even more detail:

“Suppose to be 100 pieces, actually got 98, 69 of which were absolutely very tiny size Butterfingers. Got 15 Baby Ruth and 14 Crunch. Got this package because I assumed each variety would be equally proportioned, but obviously MFG trying to unload their Butterfinger quantities. Clearly misleading packaging advertising and not even 100 pcs but less.”

If you’re looking for a variety pack of candy bars, you’ll want to avoid this one.
