Once we become parents, all of us want the best for our kids. To see them grow and flourish into balanced individuals who can confidently face life’s obstacles. As they grow up, you watch everything they do. You keep track of the things they enjoy and the things they don’t. As a parent, your job is to love them unconditionally, provide for them to the best of your ability, and encourage them. However, encouraging them to partake in extra-curricular activities for creative kids is one of the most effective ways to support their growth.
Extra-curricular activities play a vital role in shaping their passions, personalities, and skills. An extra-curricular activity demonstrates talent and provides value to other people. I believe each child is unique and creative. Finding an extra-curricular activity for your child can be challenging. If you are at a loss for where to begin, don’t worry. We’ve put together a list of the best extra-curricular activities for creative kids.
1. Music and Dance
Music and dance are popular extra-curricular activities that most kids enjoy. It includes playing instruments like the piano, drums, violin, guitar, etc. When it comes to dance, there are many different forms, such as ballet, salsa, hip-hop, tap dance, belly dance, and more. As for singing, there are also various types of music, such as classical, pop, rock, jazz, country, etc. Music and dance are ways kids can learn to express themselves. It increases their motor and physical skills and helps develop their communication skills. Both are fun and add a creative view to your child’s life. If your child is interested in music or dance, you can enroll them in a nearby school or search online for a course.
2. Culinary Classes
Next on our list are culinary classes. Introducing cooking lessons opens up your child’s mind to a variety of foods. It helps build language skills, basic math concepts, responsibility, reading, and the importance of eating healthy. Furthermore, when cooking, all of your senses come alive. Children learn by listening, touching, feeling, seeing, and tasting. Cooking is a wonderful way for kids to experiment with new foods. Additionally, it is said that children are more likely to eat food that they have prepared themselves. Studies found that children who help in the kitchen also eat more fruits and vegetables. They also learn safety in the kitchen, how to create meal plans, and how to understand the cost of food. Chefclub Kids has a variety of fun recipes you can make together.
3. Chess Club
Chess is one of the most popular games in the world and has been around since the 6th century. It is a war between two kingdoms and is played by two players. One kingdom is white, and the other kingdom is black. Each kingdom contains a king, a queen, two bishops, two knights, two rooks, and eight pawns. Each piece moves differently.
To begin the game, pawns can move one or two squares up the board. On each side, they move one square diagonally. Knights can jump over other pieces and move in the shape of Upper L. The bishop can move any number of squares diagonally. Rooks can move as many squares as they want, either vertically or horizontally, unless blocked. The queen can move as many squares as they want in all directions unless blocked. Finally, the king can move one square in any direction. When the king is under attack by an enemy piece, the king is in check and needs to protect the king with one of their pieces. The king needs to capture the piece attacking their king or move the king out of range. If the attacked player cannot do any of those moves, then the king is in checkmate and loses the game. Finally, once a pawn reaches the other side of the board, it can be upgraded to a bigger piece.
Chess helps children improve their communication and social skills. They are also able to listen to others strategies and build friendships. Furthermore, playing chess improves memory and problem-solving skills, allowing them to think outside the box.
4. Art Club
One of the best extra-curricular activities for creative kids is the art club. When it comes to art the creativity list is endless. Art club allows your kid to be creative through drawing, painting sculpture, literature, decorative art, and more. Joining an art club outside of school allows kids to experiment in ways outside of the curriculum. Fun activities can include clay, origami, rock painting, photo cutouts, and step-by-step drawings. Art club helps kids to be creative thinkers and develop their imagination. Furthermore, it builds problem-solving skills and helps kids express their emotions.
5. Gymnastics
This sport includes physical exercises, endurance, coordination, balance, flexibility, and strength. The positions used help strengthen the abdominal muscles, back, legs, shoulders, arms, and chest. Competitive gymnastics, known as artistic gymnastics for women, include beam, floor, uneven bars, and vault. For men, it includes the floor, horizontal bar, rings, parallel bars, and pommel horse. Gymnastics requires children to perform coordinated skills. This means it encourages the use of both sides of the brain. The right side of the brain is responsible for spatial awareness and creative thinking, and the left side is responsible for analytical thinking. Furthermore, gymnastics encourages teamwork and social skills, where they learn to take turns, follow directions, respect others, and listen. Finally, the kids really enjoy it and have fun.
