Can You Predict Your Child’s Gender with This Free Chinese Birth Chart (Calendar)?

The Chinese Pregnancy Calendar Chart will tell you if you're having a boy or a girl!

Can You Predict Your Child’s Gender with This Free Chinese Birth Chart (Calendar)?

The Chinese Pregnancy Calendar is based on legend, and has been used to predict whether an unborn child will be a boy or a girl. According to legend, the Chinese pregnancy calendar was buried in a royal tomb almost 900 years ago and was just recently discovered. Use the Chinese Birth Chart below to determine your baby's gender!

Key Points

  • This chart is relatively simple to use. You'll need to know your month of conception to use it.
  • If the square you land on is blue, a boy is on the way! If it's pink, your baby is a girl!
  • There is no scientific evidence to back up claims that the chart is roughly 95% accurate.

Directions for the Chinese Birth Chart

To use the Chinese pregnancy calendar, you will go down the column until you get to the age of the mother at the time of conception (it could be different if the mother has had a birthday since conceiving).

Then, go across that row until you get to the month the baby was conceived. If the square is blue, it's a boy! If the square is pink a girl is on the way!

Is the Chinese Birth Chart Accurate?

If you're taking a look at the Chinese birth chart, you might be wondering if it's accurate. Is there any scientific backing to this chart, or is it all based on faith?

The Chinese birth chart claims 95% accuracy. In a study published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2009, researchers found that the Chinese birth calendar was no more accurate than a coin toss when it came to predicting a baby's gender. Another study in 2010 came to the same conclusion after reviewing records of 2.8 million births between 1973 and 2006.

So, it's safe to say there's no scientific evidence backing up the claim that the Chinese birth calendar is roughly 95% accurate. Rather, it seems to be more of a 50-50 shot that it will correctly predict a child's gender at birth. You definitely shouldn't be making any decisions based off of this chart's predictions. Save the blue paint for when an ultrasound can confirm the gender of your baby!

That being said, there's nothing wrong with using this chart for fun. It can spark conversations with your partner about your baby's potential gender, and can help generate excitement about your baby. Or, if you're currently planning for a child but aren't yet pregnant, it can be a fun exercise to do as you think about potential dates of conception.
