How Your Kids Can Help

Since this recipe is sure to become a favorite with kids, why not have them lend you a hand with making it? Having your kids cook with you is a great way to teach them greater appreciation for their food. There are certainly a few aspects of this recipe that your kids can help you with.

Combining ingredients is generally something kids of any age can do. As a general rule of thumb, if your child isn't tall enough to see over the counter, they probably are too young to help you cook. Have your kids take turns mixing; step in if needed to ensure all of the ingredients are well-mixed.

Your kids can also help you butter up the pan! This is a simple task, ideal for kids who can't do anything else due to being too young. We recommend pouring the mixture into the pan yourself, as the bowl may be too heavy and clumsy for children to handle. The last thing you want is the mixture going all over the floor!

Never let young children put things in the oven or take them out. This can be dangerous; they could easily burn themselves. Only let older children do this, or do it yourself.

Whenever kids are in the kitchen, make sure you enforce common-sense safety. Make sure they don't act rowdy in the kitchen. There's a time and place for rowdiness, but it isn't when you're cooking. Teach them to exercise caution around hot or sharp objects. Make sure they thoroughly wash their hands with soap and warm water for at least 30 seconds prior to handling any food.
