How to Make Festive Stained-Glass Christmas Cookies

Many of us eagerly anticipate the holidays for different reasons. The sound of Christmas music, snow falling on the ground, making memories with loved ones, and — of course — the smell of cookies baking in the oven. It's a time for family and friends to come together to bond and reminisce about past holidays. One thing is for certain, there's always a favorite holiday cookie that your loved ones can't wait to make every year. Almost everyone has had a Christmas cookie recipe at some point in their lives, it is a traditional Christmas cookie. For these traditional cookies, each looks like it has stained-glass windows, beautiful and perfect for the season. You never know, these just may become your family's favorite.

Stained-Glass Christmas Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 rolls of the multi-colored lifesavers candy

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Beat sugar, vanilla, butter, and eggs in a large bowl with an electric mixer on medium speed, or mix vigorously with a spoon.

2. Stir in baking powder, flour, and salt. Cover and refrigerate for one hour until firm.

3. Cover the cookie sheet with aluminum foil.

4. On a lightly floured surface, roll 1/3 of the dough at a time to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut into shapes.

5. Place 1 inch apart on a cookie sheet. Cut out window pane designs from cookies. Place partially crushed pieces of candy in cutouts, mixing colors as desired.

6. Bake for 7-9 minutes. Immediately spread any unmelted candy with a knife. Cool completely on the pan.

Allow these delicious cookies to cook, and get ready for them to disappear! You could even wrap them and place them in a festive tin to send to family members to enjoy in their own homes. Enjoy!
