Tips For Encouraging Your Child to Be Active
Having an active child is certainly not a bad thing! Active children are usually happier, more social, and less prone to health issues like obesity. Many parents assume that “active” is synonymous with “sports”, but that is not necessarily the case.
One way to get your child to live an active life from an early age is to go on walks with them regularly. These don't have to be extremely long walks, especially if your child is young. Developing a routine that involves activity will help your child get adjusted to the idea of living an active life.
Of course, getting your child involved in a sport is always a good way to get them to be more active. As they get older, talk to them about what sport they're interested in. Let them know that it doesn't have to be one of the “traditional” sports like basketball or baseball. If they want to get into skiing or kayaking, for example, that's great!
Finally, help your child understand why being active is important. A high activity level will keep them in good health and in good spirits. Studies have shown that exercising regularly is beneficial for a person's mental health. And, of course, live by example! Remain active yourself, so that your child can be inspired by you.
